Looked at your website ( alpineluddites.com ) and wonder why you need someone to make straps for you?? All you need is a utility knife, a hammer, few rivets, rivet setter, some leather, some felt as you already have the sewing machines. kgg Quote Juki DNU - 1541S, Juki DU - 1181N, Singer 29K - 71(1949), Chinese Patcher (Tinkers Delight), Warlock TSC-441, Techsew 2750 Pro, Consew DCS-S4 Skiver
CFM chuck123wapati Posted April 4 CFM Report Posted April 4 Is it felt or sheepskin? Yes there are different grades, quality, types, thickness and cost of felt. Felt is: i) Made with fibres that are basically tangled together rather then woven together using heat, moisture and pressure. ii) Basically there are three types. Those that are made with Natural Wool, Synthetic Fibres and Blends of wool and man made fibres. iii) As far as how thick for a shoulder pad it will depend on it's usage ranging from 1/8" to 3/4". The felt strap in the photo looks to be very thin felt. I did notice the edges of the felt were pinked. Depending on the age they were probably pinked with a hand crank Singer pinker, pinking shears or a rotary cutter with a pinking blade. This was probably done to reduce shedding of loose fibres so you only get small pieces rather then long stands being shed as a result of wear.
