American Straight Needle Stitcher. I've researched and scoured the internet regarding one of these machines I've agreed to buy and must get this heavy top heavy beast hauled home in a few days. I will be in it at a good price and it looks (and am told) to be in good condition. I have numerous modern sewing machines including a Seiko CW8B, a Flatbed Cowboy 797, a Weaver Cub and most recently, a Cowboy 4500 (which I love).  I've a little time running a Landis curved needle machine under supervision from a couple of boot repairmen but not the Straight Stitch machine. From what I've seen, when working properly, the stitch is beautiful from these machines. I've downloaded a manual and watched Lisa Sorrell's videos. I will have a lot to learn. Perhaps it's folly but I'm thinking I will use this machine (relatively short throat depth) to sew some knife sheaths and similar items. I'm interested in connecting with anyone on here who uses one of these machines on a regular basis and is willing to share tips etc along the way as I realize I have a mountain of things to learn if I can manage to use it competently. But men built it, men made livings with it, I figure a man with enough patience can learn to maintain and operate it given enough time. Don't laugh to hard at my folly.

We all need something to keep us out of the bars ... Between industrials and domestics, I have around 40 sewing machines.

Sounds like a fun machine.
