Hey hey there!

I've been looking at a number of Adler machines being sold by the same individual.

I wondered if you knowlegable lot could help with some way to identify them easily?

I have model numbers and serial numbers but can't seem to find any online sources for a lookup service like Singer for instance has.

There's 220-50-73, 220-76-273, 220-76-273W

Plus,

070-G2, other id nos, K477 594940 980016 this has a chain drive roller feed,

I'll post a photo.

Along with photos to accompany these questions...

What are the cylinders for on the 220-76-273W?

Air foot lift and auto air thread cut?

Back tack device? Other?!

What is the very heavy bracket on the head of the 221-76-273 for?

Finally, what is the general consensus on the Efka Vario DC N156A drive systems?

Hopefully you clever buggers can shine some light on the machines and their extra features and help me decide which are coming home with me!!

Many thanks in advance!! Screenshot_20260504_202539_com.android.gallery3d.jpg.bbaa8108bd357c29adc792fc28a91b6e.jpgScreenshot_20260504_202558_com.android.gallery3d.jpg.7cbc5f1f475ac6880f17297a8e79d791.jpgScreenshot_20260504_202624_com.android.gallery3d.jpg.2016e7ecd827c49aea80db884b94d38d.jpg

Here is the leaflet of Adler 220

https://www.duerkopp-adler.com/fileadmin/dag/Media/Downloads/220/Leaflet_Adler_class_220.pdf

there is already something about them on LW:

I would say that these cylinders are actuators that are used to control mechanisms.

In my opinion, the machine in the picture is in very bad condition. While you could rebuild the mechanical parts, the electronic components are not worth repairing. I wouldn't pay anything for it, but I would certainly like to tinker with it.

The Efka Vario system was a marvel in its time, but now you need a high level of skill to keep it operating. If it doesn't work, scrap it and replace it with a modern servo without the original system's bells and whistles.

Yes, the people want big money for them and can't understand why they're not worth it after sitting there degrading for years.

The whole lot, which is around a dozen machines, are in poor cosmetic condition but some seem to move freely where they should, though none are ready for a test sew obviously.

The cylinders im guessing are actuators for foot lift and some kind of thread cutter or the like, i just wondered if anyone knew for certain.

The efka drive units are generally filthy and have almost certainly been damp over the winters they've sat there sadly.

I think id definitely go with modern servo drives if i can cut a deal on the machines id like to restore to usefulness.

It's so sad seeing them go to shit because they are blind to what's happening to them.

I would wager they'll end up in the bin eventually as none have sold in 6 years apparently.

Industrial machines do fetch reasonable prices here but only in working condition.

A couple of long arm machines have been advertised for at least two years at around $2500 aud and i think they are in working order but nobody has taken them so far.

A reasonable condition, working triple / compound feed machine generally goes for $500-$1200 around here but there isn't a big number of them around so i guess that's why they hold value.

I hope to find out more about the specific models and the attachments on the individual machines to help make a decision on which i may make an offer on.

Does anyone know anything about the chain drive roller feed units on some of these machines?

They're chain drive at the working end and i think exclusively belt drive to the shaft the chain takes power from.

Is roller feed good for something in particular or just a seemingly rare option in the past?

Does anyone know if a twin needle machine can be used as a single by just removing the second needle, bobbin and cage and treating it like a single stitch machine?

If there's a better place in the forum for this post, please let me know and I'll move it, or if an admin has the ability, please feel free to if it might get some more interest and questions answered.

Cheers!!
