I used Tandy Leather's paper pattern to make a quiver.

Very nicely done! Quite a few Leathercraft skills on display there and a functional thing to use to boot.

I've never figured out how to get that mottled dye look. Much nicer than a boring, even coat.

Spraying dye is the only way I have ever had any success getting a nice even color. I use a HVLP gun and spray thin coats.

Nice quiver!! Now for an armguard to match.  Is that for hunting or just range practice?

Worked in a prison for 30 years if I aint shiny every time I comment its no big deal, I just don't wave pompoms.

On smallish things, holsters and such, wetting the piece and then dip dying it does a pretty good job. I really only need enough dye in the wide, shallow container to lay the face I want to dye in. I can recover what I don't use.

I like the results spraying can achieve but I have zero interest in maintaining a sprayer.
