Wallet - inner layer shorter

I've really struggled with wallets. Looking at an ancient wallet in my stuff, I realized that the inner layer is shorter than the outside main body of the wallet!

Probably not a news bulletin to lots of people here, but it was to me. It solves the lumpy folding problem I've been plagued with.

I bought a wallet liner from Tandy maybe 40 years ago.  The liner was self adjusting so no problem with bunching up either when folded or opened fully depending on whether the liner was shorter than the back or same length.

Over the years, I have made some adjustments to the original pattern.  It does make the wallet a little thicker due to the design that allows for expansion.  I think I posted a rough pattern here some years ago.  Have fun with the chase!

yes, the shorter liner is intentional.  It lets the wallet close easier and without so much of a lump in the center. Leave about 3/4" - 1" unsewn in the center so it can flex.
