just gotta rant-

Recommended Posts

I don't expect any responses here- I just have to see it written.

After Obama's totally tasteless, thoughtless and meaningless gift ( Walmart I-pod) to the queen.... wouldn't it be neat if we or some other handcraft forum took up a collection and sent her something that showed the ability and workmanship of the american people. Wouldn't have to be expensive or ornate- but I know that if I was a world leader I would LOVE to have an album by Hidepounder, a relief of Clay's, a miniature saddle or a purse/picture by Tina.

thanks for indulging me- I'm SO PISSED at this guy- he's a puppet that 's in WAY over his head.

I'm sorry if I offended anyone or placed an unsuitable post here but I am just SO #@)*&^)# MAD to see our country go to hell and for no reason.

I spent a lot of time and money putting together a portfolio for my family, learned to manage it, and have watched it plummet since you know who took office.

I am no expert when it comes to the economy but I know a LOT of people who are and they all agree that this bail out/rescue nonsense is just that- NONSENSE.

Even the pulitzer award winner , the father of Modern Portfolio Theory says that this is all just a waste of time trying to make this into what may become a socialist experiment to change an entire nation.

Again- sorry... but he's not MY president.

clinging to my gun(s), family and bible.

ps-JOHANNA_ please let this remain for a little while to allow those offended to accept or at least read my apology before you whack me.

I'm not gonna whack you, Pete. My husband just came home and let me know he got a 6.5% pay cut today. I think it's a neat idea to give the Queen something. How many people in the news have NO scandal associated with them? She's a gracious lady, and it would be a kind gesture to make a gift for her, with respect, from the USA.

i'm not an economist... but... NONE of the current economic issues began when Obama was elected....ALL of the S@#t we're in right now started quite a while ago....sometime in the mid to late 90's when the economy started getting crazy and continuing on until the "crash" the stock market has gone completely insane...the housing market has gone completely insane....default credit swap? seriously? who the hell thought that was a good idea?

i think it's a little unfair to blame someone who's trying to do SOMETHING to fix something they're not 100% responsible for (yes....he's been a senator for a while...and no i don't know any specifics as to bills he may or may not have worked on that may or may not have contributed to our current state)...

WE (i.e. AMERICANS) are responsible for this calamity that has come upon us....WE have made stupid decisions with our own money...

Also...i postulate that if mccain had won (or anyone else who ran)....that your portfolio would be in the exact same state that it is now....this economic failure was coming no matter who's at the wheel...it's coincidence that YOUR portfolio started tanking during the current presidency...but i can assure you that's just because it takes a while for things that effect the large scale to filter down to the small scale

:You_Rock_Emoticon: I agree! it is better to put it down in black and white for everyone to see. it also allows you to blow off steam so you don't use your anger on anyone.

I am clinging to my guns and Bible as well. don't be ashamed of your feelings as there are thousands of others who would and do agree with you!

I know this isn't the forum for this kind of thing but sometimes you just have to blow your own horn.

Yeah tell me alll about it -- I work for the same company as Johanna's hubby

3.9% cut for me

along with the "little things" that have ALWAYS been there to make life a little more "bearable"

A paid Birthday day -- gone

free drink at first break -- gone

by the end of the year we will be going "paperless pay checks" bi-monthly, which means that we will prob have MORE taken out of them.

and I think that with this cut we are at least 4 if not 5 years back in pay scale.

{and I wou;n't count on that 25 year club thing this year either)

Is your shop still open? I might need it to make ends meet

We may have made stupid decisions with our money, but that MARXIST in the white house and all his dumbass croneys are making our stupid decisions look like a cake walk. The way our money is being mis-spent, by the time your great grandchildren are old enough to make a living, they will be paying upwards of 60% of their wages (if they're in the middle class tax bracket) in taxes to pay for the idots of today's government!

If government spending continues at this pace, the interest alone on the money we borrow from China will be $830,000,000,000

a year. Is that change we can afford? I think not.

The only change coming to America is the change from capitalism to socialism. Period.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Finally some common sense put forth in a MATURE manner.

(And y'know, my portfolio & investments are in the toilet also.) But to listen to the nuts on talk radio & then to parrott the buzzwords they utter without ever knowing what the words mean or even knowing if they are real words (WTF is a 'porkulous', for cryin' out loud?): this makes people into mindless, unthinking little trolls, puppets controlled by idealogues on both the left AND the right, just like the bookburners & the anarchists in nazi germany before WWII.

I admit that there were those who took advantage of the system but the VAST majority of americans didn't think that they were cheating the system. They should have been REFUSED the loans by those offering them(BUT WERE TOLD TO DO SO BY BARNEY FRANK, CRIS DODD, ETC)

I DON'T BELIEVE THAT FOR A SECOND. WOULD WE BE IN TROUBLE NOW? Yes, but the remedies that McCain would have proposed would have been methodical, slow to present, and more transparent. I've never met the man but I know in my heart that he loves this country and puts her first. It's his nature and needs no defending.

I heard the queen *loved* the gift - because it was something useful, and not yet another useless trophy or ugly piece of jewelry that she has to store somewhere.

She'd probably also love a piece of functional leather work by a high quality craftsman, such as those you suggest.

I had noticed the economy tanking several years ago. It is not recent by any means. But I do understand that people really like having someone to blame - it makes them feel better, I guess.

Personally I'm giving the guy a chance... I think it was brave to run at this time, when the country is in such a mess, knowing full well lots of people would point fingers at him and blame *him*, as though *he* had been in office for the past 8 years. And I think it's a good idea to do things differently - what was going on sure was not working, so best thing to do is try something different.

Won't be long before we'll be saying "I'll trade you a handmade leather belt for two rolls of toilet paper and a pound of coffee"! Its been said before: I'll keep my folding money and they can keep their 'change"! We're still the greatest nation on earth but for how long? :ranting2: :soapbox:

Times are tough, have been before, will be again. They are after all, politicians and/or talking heads. A person can do only what they can to protect themselves and their families during times such as these. As far as the rant....Good for You! the more people that get P.O'd the better the chance of change. And contrary to what they tell you, One person can make a difference no matter how small it might be. This country is so hellbent on immediate gratification it is destined to repeat the errors of the past. The riche got theirs, you think gates really cares that he lost some pocket change! his accountants will make that up and more from the loopholes put there by ...guess who!, and now everyone else is left holding the bag and scrambling to make ends meet until better times arrive. As far as the Queen, I believe she is a very nice lady and probably a pretty good monarch compared to most others. Don't know why she would need an Ipod or whatever. She loves those dogs, so shes ok in my book. Maybe one of the collar makers around here could whip up a few and send them off.

The company I work for is small and family owned. We saw the economy going several years ago and started taking steps then to protect and position ourselves. I haven't had a raise in 4 years but because of that I haven't had a cut in pay either and my check still comes every week and doesn't bounce. Not a single penny has been added to my profit-sharing account in 3 years and that is part of my retirement (I'll never get to retire, I'm going to drop dead in the office someday). My dental benefits end at the end of this month.

I think McCain would've sucked as president; maybe not quite as much as Obama, but he would've still sucked. I didn't vote for either of them.

McCain was all in favor of the bailout also. That would've been no different if he'd won. So, we'd still be in the same place.

Obama is more socialist than McCain, that's pretty much a given. He thinks govmint can solve our problems while I KNOW govmint is the problem.

I dislike Obama because of his appointments/nominations for one thing; tax evaders kept getting nominated when they should've been in jail like any of the rest of us "little" people.

He's also gone green. He drove a Chrysler 300 with a 5.7 litre V8 until he started his campaign, then he went and got a hybrid, stated having Al Gore over for lunch, appointed Cho to the Department of the Interior. All of that makes me boil!! McCain wouldn't have been much better.

They all suck.

Know how to tell a politician is lying?

Their lips are moving.

Gotta go.

If Pete or anyone else wants to discuss making something out of leather for the Queen of England, please start a new thread. If anyone has more political views they would like to express, perhaps another forum would be better as LW isn't the place to do that. :nono:

No fistfights in the hallways either, please.

:head_hurts_kr:

Now, more than ever, we need to pull together. No matter if you eat meat or not, or what color/religion/orientation/ethnic group/kind of horse you ride/political party you belong to/ etc. et al you are, of course, welcome at LW.

:gathering:

If you like leatherwork, you're in the right place.

Thank you for your understanding.
