Lifters

Recommended Posts

I have a question about lifters. I would like to know what the tool looks like,

who make the best ones, and how they're used.

Second part of the question...How do you use it?

You carefully lay the toe of the tool into your swivel knife cut where you want the leather lifted and strike the other end with your mallet.

Good luck.

Hi Rhide,

Are you possably asking about this kind of "Lifter"? These do a similar job,,, just by hand, you don't hit these. These come in a few different sizes.

Thank you both! I truly had NO idea on how to use this tool. I don't have one yet but, now that I understand it's function, I can see some places it could be a valuable asset. I've spent the greater part of my life carving wood and pounding metal. This is an exciting and fun new craft for me. Wish I'd found it earlier.

I have much better luck with the one like bearman posted. I don't leave as many unwanted marks with it, I think because I may have a little better control pushing it by hand rather than with a maul. You can pick a cheap one of those up for around 7 bucks. Some people on here have posted that they have made them out of old screwdrivers.
