Eyelet Setting Problem. Need Help

Recommended Posts

I am trying to use some black eyelets on a project. I have been testing some on scrap leather first because it's the first time I have used them. My problem is after I set one the black paint is scraped off and the brass shows. How can I prevent this from happening? John

You may have the wrong setter or it may be marked, hence the paint coming off. If they set ok then just paint the bit that shows brass with similar paint. Hope it helps.

A small piece of kid lining or other thin leather put between the eyelet and the tool can help. It has to be thin though.

Thank you for the replies. It is the right setter. And it does set fine. I tried a piece of thick plastic tape on the eyelet and it did not scrap the paint off. Only tried it on one so far. I will try it on a few more and report back to say weather it worked or not. John

you should use a die set to attach the eyelets
