Sheepskin Coat Pattern

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone.

I am from Cape Town South Africa. I recently started with leather work and that is going great. However I have now been challenged by my better half to produce a pair of 3/4 length sheepskin coats(Wool inside). No small feat considering I stitch by hand. She saw it in a magazine some where and thought it a nice idea...This has put me in a complete tailspin out of my comfort zone. But I am up for the challenge.

I have found a supplier for the skins. Great! Now, I am really struggling to find a sewing pattern for the his & hers coats.

Can anyone please help?

You will probobly have to buy a sewing coat pattern. The patterns are the main reason I don't do clothing. Because there are so many sizes of clothing, you usually have to scale and alter patterns. I usually find them confusing as all get out.

I would look for a boxy pattern with raglan leaves and a shawl collar, if I were you. It would be much easier to set the sleeves and deal with the collar.

You can sew lamb skin on a sturdy home machine... but you'll need to trim the fur away from the seam allowance and brush away the clippings.

Something like this, but with full length sleeves.
