would this method also work for more number of strands than just 8? if i use 12 strands, can i just make 3 strands on each point, instead of 2?

If you wanted to use 12 strands, you would need to use 6 anchor points instead of 4. From there proceed as normal.

Hey Drac, thank you :)

Just completed a 16 plait in Paracord fir a flogger handle. Apart from a little wiggle in the plait and getting the first wrap around way too tight and having to put a bit of slack in the finish it, it looks good and is a great base to learn patterns. With paracord I think it would have been even easier if I had 8 permaloks to do the braiding :)

Drac is no longer here: http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=27426&hl=%2Brip+%2Bdrac

He gave a great explanation of how to start & I offer my gratitude too.

Hi SOS I know. I unfortunately didn't find out until I had posted, from another website. I didn't know the how or why or even the when. I felt terrible that it might come across as insensitive but I genuinely meant what I said and it is good to know his talent carries on as a legacy.

Imma going to post in a thread that has layer dormant for 9 years. Lol

very much doubt anyone reads this

I have concocked a handle for a whip that is a braided handle

ingredients

6” -1/2” pvc pipe

1” pvc cap

1x 1/2” fitting reducer

3/4x1/2” fitting reducer

3/4” coupling

drill a 1/2” hole in the center of the 1” cap

drill a second hole in the cap 1/4” hole on the edge of the cap

next to the 1/2” hole

determine the number of strands laid side by side that will cover the cap

example.  Circumference equals 3”

your lace is 1/4”  wide

you would need 12 lengths 12” long

Tie the 12 strands together  shove the strands up and out the cap

insert a 4’ strand in the second hole

Still with me?

lol.  Take the long strand and lace over under over under over etc. in a circle pattern

stop when you get to the edge of the cap

use a hose clamp to secure at the edge

tighten and make your transition from cap to pipe. Use the hose clamp to help hold things tight and in place

continue weaving down the pipe
