Members campbell990 Posted October 31, 2013 Members Report Posted October 31, 2013 Hi, I am wanting to get started in leather crafting as a hobby, but I can't decide which beginner's set to go with. I am looking at the tandy kit https://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/en-usd/home/department/starter-sets/55510-00.aspx for 69.99 or the Springfield kit http://springfieldleather.com/29315/Starter-Set%2CProfessional%2CDelux/ at 135.99. I am trying to definitely trying to get the most bang for the buck here, but don't want to cheap out too much either. I am sure as I progress I will be upgrading tools, but I am hoping to find a starter kit that will last me a while. Any input you guys might have is greatly appreciated. Quote
Members RoyalLeatherDesigns Posted October 31, 2013 Members Report Posted October 31, 2013 First of all Welcome to the forum you are going to enjoy yourself while learning if you stick around. As of the starter kit I would definitely go with the one from Springfield just because of the fact that it has most tools you'll need to make something, you'll get the feel of the different kind of tools and from there you can upgrade to other tools. The one from Springfield has the essentials you need for tooling also which is a lot of fun, the Tandy one is really basic and probably won't be very impressed when you receive it. Go with the one from Springfield. Have fun while doing it! God Bless! Ralph Garcia Quote
Members Glendon Posted October 31, 2013 Members Report Posted October 31, 2013 I would second the Springfield suggestion. A bit more money, but it will really get you started. Plus Springfield is just a good business to support. Springfield is a local small business that will get you off to a good start in leatherwork. Quote
Members campbell990 Posted October 31, 2013 Author Members Report Posted October 31, 2013 Thanks guys. I was leaning that way too, but when I saw tandy post a clearance price of 69.99 for their 179.00 kit I started to second guess. I will go with the Springfield kit. Thanks again. Quote
