Avgvstvs Report post Posted January 21, 2015 I realised I printed the pattern smaller than it should have been at a late stage of the project (I was sooooo pissed at myself). Decided to keep on going just for the learning process. To my surprise, everything fits in the finished wallet. Bills stick out a little of the pockets but that's not so bad for a project that was supposed to be doomed from the start. The oustide is vegetable tanned goatskin, interior is veg tan calfskin, both pre-dyed, sewn at 7spi with 332 satin linen thread (campbell's). Then did it all again to the correct size.Love your veg tan calf interior. Nice work. Looks like you added some pockets too. If you haven't sewn your 'scrapped' wallet already and provided you haven't salvaged the leather yet, you might want to try to sew it really close to the edges and it could work perfect for you. My bills stick out but they are canadian currency, and they are bigger than US bills (by about 1/4 inch or so). I'm pretty sure the 'downsized' version would work out for you. I like how the simple variations in this pattern create a complete different look, not to mention the choice in materials. rawcustom Report post Posted January 23, 2015 This was a fun project and really consumed all my free time since Monday when I decided to take up the challenge. I had ideas of a far more intricate and expansive Yggdrasil, but limited myself on account of time. The inside is calfskin, and pigskin, and the sewing is braided spectra, compliments to my archery endeavours. First time using a template and I found it very straightforward and enjoyable. I modified the pockets and realized it would create a gap along the seam, but decided I would try it and see if it didn't make it look a little more different than the rest. Craftsman Made Report post Posted January 25, 2015 Finally finished the 1st project. I have made mine slightly smaller so as to take UK notes and also I have only put 3 cards either side. I used 5mm english bridle leather which I skived down by hand to 3mm for the outside which I then lined with doe skin and then skived that down along the edges of were the pockets where to go. I used 2mm case leather for the rest. It is stitched with 4 cord 18 black linen thread. I made all the pieces slightly larger than my templates glued and stitched them together then trimmed off the excess at the end as close to the stitch line as I could get. I just used warm water and a flat bone to do the edges. Could have been a bit thinner but I am happy with it. Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I had cut it out of ... yeah... 4 oz. chrome tanned, because that's what I had... but it was obviously going to be way too thick, even without cards, so I need to cut out the inside again out of some thinner veg tan I just acquired.I'm enjoying seeing all the cool variations people are coming up with! Got to agree, the pockets are really thoughtfully done... And hand skiving the whole piece of leather. That's real dedication and I never thought it could be done. This has solved for me something on my first project, which i had been struggling on how to achieve ie to pare down a folding gusset, which is almost a A4 in size. Great work! It gave me a lot of practice using my new round knife, both cutting and skiving. I had never used one before and now I'm not sure I could do the work without it. Also the first opportunity to shoot dye with an airbrush. So much better control on the amount of dye.
