Herringbone Braid

Recommended Posts

Hello all, was wondering if anyone could give me a hand in learning the herringbone braid, ive seen this pattern in other members work and think i looks pretty nice for a bracelet, im interested in making it primarily in 6 and 8 strands, im not even sure if it can be done in 4 strands but i may be wrong, If you know a you tube video or any other resource that can point me in the right direction id appreciate it.

Thank You

D.A.

Bruce Grant's Encyclopedia of Rawhide and Leather Braiding would be where to find answers and instructions.

I've got "Leather Braiding" by Bruce Grant and would recommend against his books ... the one I have is poorly laid out, horrible pictures with no in photo labels and some resources aren't even remotely close to where they belong. Go with a modern braiding book of some type.

EDIT: It's not that the book isn't useful, but rather for a beginner it's horrible & mildly difficult for the two leather guys I brought it too and asked what they thought.

Personally, if you don't know which books or are just starting, goto youtube and put your request into the search there ... even look at the paracord braiders as they seem to be the most practical braiding.

Here's an image only explaination of the 8 square or Herringbone: It's the 2nd braid and labelled by the same name ... LBJ & John is awesome! http://www.lbbyj.com/index.php?main_page=page&id=4

There are some great videos on YouTube. Just type in what you are looking for and search. You would be surprised.
