SLP Report post Posted November 24, 2015 Beautiful! I'm just getting started, but your work is inspiring. What kind of wood stain do you use?

stu925 Report post Posted November 28, 2015 I used woodstain as usual. I did some tests with some wood stain I have here and my results were not good. All the colors looked basically the same, tried some puritan pine, walnut, special walnut and cherry and they were all pretty ugly. Maybe the stain you're using is higher end stuff than I have available. I'll just stick with Fiebing's for now. Stu
BanjoMan Report post Posted December 1, 2015 If you don't mind me asking, what products/process are you using to finish your holsters after you dye them? I am currently using Fiebings oil dye and I'm satisfied with my colors, but I would like to try to get less of a gloss on my finished products. After I dye, I apply a coat of neatsfoot oil followed by a coat of resolene followed by a coat of neutral shoe polish (allowing time to dry between all applications). I really like the matte finish on your holsters and would like to know what you do if you don't mind sharing. My only condition (and the main reason I use resolene) is that my products really need to be somewhat water resistant due to the likelihood of rain exposure during use. Thanks for any help you can offer!
fgabesz Report post Posted December 11, 2015 I colour my sheaths with thinner-based wood stain, and finish them with a mixture of warm beeswax and paraffin oil.
