First project

This is my first....well second project I have completed after having 16yrs off. The first was a belt which I am not overly impressed by, but the second I made a collar for my dog. I am a bit happier with the final result, still a lot of work to perfect my stitching. And it's my first time using stamps as well. I am happy with how it turned out though.

I know my edges are not the best as I have not used a proper edge beveller as I am waiting for one to arrive.

Also sorry about the poor quality, I have not got the best camera, And he collar has been worn, so there are a few marks on it already.

Let me know your thoughts. I need the good and bad as that will help me in the future. Thanks all.

Not too foul AussieMade and the buckle is very a very nice pick.

Great work! I think that there could have been a better termination at the "tip". I always start with the tip on my strap projects and end at the buckle, just in case i dont have a good overall length. Make sure to use some kind of adhesive  (Barge Cement) at your stitched area to help keep it all together. Keep your awl straight all the way through, and check the back to see how you are doing. I hope this helps!

overall, nice job for your second project. Few tips though

 

1. Pick up a burnisher. Wet the edges then rub them with the burnisher. It will make them look a lot smoother. There is a great guide by Hidepounder in the how to section for more info

 

2. try not to sew across the leather. Some will say it doesn't matter but it it does weaken the leather some and depending on the application, could cause the leather to break

 

3. Use a wing divider (if you don't have one, good advice to get one) to line up where the holes (and edges) should go.
