bonding silk cotton mix fabric to leather

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm trying to make a roll up backgammon board with leather on the outside and a silk cotton mix fabric on the inside.

I'm having some trouble finding the correct bonding agent/glue to stick the fabric to the reverse (suede side) of the calf. The issue arise when I try to roll the board up (fabric on the inside), once rolled and unrolled ridges appear on the fabric which do not flatten out.

Can anyone recommend a glue or something which will fix the two layers together enabling them to roll and unroll smoothly without bumping up.

So far I have tried: vilene bondaweb (works perfectly for fabric to fabric but ridges up with leather), copydex (same problem), fast tak spray glue (doesn't ribbed up so badly but makes the board too stiff and dry, also leaks into the leather - however is amazing for sticking leather to wood!)

Am based in the UK but am happy to try anything I can get my hands on.

I use 3M super 77 to glue fabric to leather. I spray both sides,  stick them together,  then iron cloth side using the steam setting.

It will crease less and be nicer to play on if you use a layer of 2mm or so felt between the surface and backing.
