Boriqua Posted October 3, 2016 Report Posted October 3, 2016 So a gentleman who I had worked with before asked me to do a 0 cant holster for a 1911 with an Arizona Flag. Now he thought I would do some rectangular flag stamp thing but was very happy with where I went with it. Its now drying with the mold in it but .. I am torn and looking for some fresh eyes. I had always intended as a final step to apply a very light stain to front as the final step before sealing. I bought a chestnut highlighter because I think that is the lightest color you can get. I thought it would kick back the color on the flag some, make it look a bit dingy and help to bridge the medium brown and wheat dye. But .. now i am kind of digging the bright colored flag. I have been back and forth 10 times over the last 3 days. So looking for some new eyes. Smear the whole thing with chestnut, Only smear the ears (dyed parts) with chestnut or .. it looks good .. spray with resolene and leave it alone. I have a ton of time in this and would hate to ruin it now but...well ... give me your thoughts. Quote

Thats interesting. I always thought that Bag Kote, tan Kote, resolene and to a lesser extent super sheen were very similar products. Just a clear sealer. What does Tan kote impart that you recommend it above resolene? It doesnt have a colorant right? Can you spray it? Quote

Both water-based. Resolene tends to be a tad more glossy. I've never sprayed tan-kote, though I suppose you could if thinned a bit. I just "wipe" it on with the palm of my hand, basically. It's a strip of leather. How hard could it be? 4 years and 3 grand later.... I have a belt I can finally live with. Stitching is like gravy, it's only great if you make it every day.
