Hello fellow craftsmen and craftswomen, 

Here is a small project I just finished up.  Can anyone give me a good "rule of thumb" when dealing with stitch lines from the edge?  I tend to use 3-4 mm, but after burnishing I feel my work looks a bit too close to the edge.  Thoughts?  Thank you in advance.

generally I use the thickness of the leather is the distance I make my stitch line in from the edge. Now, on some radio cases I'm making now, I'm going in about 5mm just to make them heavier and to help prevent rip out during rough usage

I would say 1/8" (about 3mm) is an absolute minimum for me on a sheath.  I tend to lean more toward 3/16 to 1/4" (5 to 6mm) or as high as 5/16 on bulkier sheaths with thick welts (about 8mm).  Of course, everyone has their own preference.

Cool.  Thanks.  I'm going to adjust to 5mm and see how I like it.
