Folder Sheath second try.

Ok guys,  Here is my second try.  First try using the bone, after watching the video that was supplied last time.

 

The sewing is giving me fits.  Cant seem to get a straight line.  I used some felt for the edging but still seemed to spill over the sides.

This one looks much better. Still need to sand down the edges and use a divider to mark your lines.

On another note..... Do you have a stitching pony yet? If you are having to hold the piece while you pull your stitches they will always look wonkey.

Your wet molding is looking great and I love the design.

I tried to sand down the edges but I think I still need to work on this as I am not happy when I think I am done 

I do have a stitching pony but was hesitated to use it for fear of damaging the molding. 

I like the design and hope I can improve and get better on them

You could glue and stitch before you mold. Especially if you have a pattern made up.

As far as the sanding, you can still sand on it some more.

I really like the kind of banana shape you have going on with it.

What kind of knife is that?

Nice work.

If you clamp it with the knife in it ( or a wood block or roll of leather) you wont collapse the case.

If you assemble and stitch before molding you will get a pouch and not a flat back case and you need to re-pattern to allow the stitch line to move inwards when you stuff the knife in.

best thing is practice practice practice. Read the forum fro tips, watch videos. Get the Stohlman book on hand sewing or any other and ... practice practice practice.

You are right. The one that I stitched and then molded did not have a flat back.

Not bad really just different! Some things are better made that way than mold and assemble all depends what you are after or feel trying.

Its a knife kit from JANTZ - 605 Original Folder. 

 

I do have Stohlman book,  I have been both punching and drilling all the holes prior to sewing.  I will try punch one hole at a time as described in the book.  Have to pick up a proper awl.

Nice work, you are making progress.  Remember, you can also improve your edges by trimming them after sewing.  You might find that easier, resulting in little to no sanding.

totally agree with Bikermutt, you need dividers or a stitch groover to mark your stitch lines.  It will help "sharpen" the look of your work.

Looks good.  The forming is really coming along.  It looks like your using staples in your forming.  I use pins and work my way (usually down both sides from the top) one pin at a time which allows me to usually keep the pins where my stitching will go so I don't have any unsightly holes in the finished project.
