Very nice work but I have to admit I have no idea how it is that the bones run in both directions away from the crown. The join is excellent. Tell me more please.

Hey Mick Dundee, he never said it was real. Not everyone can bail out the back of the pad and bag a croc!  LOL!!!

I guess not but I am surprised that they make what looks to be such a good imitation of the skin. I would like to warn anyone doing similar work to think hard about how to stop shrinkage of the leather and in particular if it is veg leather. It might be interesting to hear some ideas of how some would suggest to achieve this type of attachment.

Tandy had it on sale not long ago, gator embossed veg tan shoulder.  Could you elaborate a little about how you mean "shrinkage"? Do you mean shrinkage because the leather is used as an insert that is not sewn to anything to keep its shape? If leather was bonded to something like poly sheet, like stiffener, would that prevent shrinking?

Regarding the shrinkage in a situation like this yes. Many miles in all sorts of weather hot ,cold, wet will certainly make shrinkage a factor to contend with. If I were doing a similar job the skin would have to have a stiff fabric attached first followed by a 1 or 2 mm eva type foam to allow a little stretch and shrink and heat and moisture separation. Just curious to hear from anyone else having had success with any other approaches?
