flerg777 Report post Posted January 10, 2017 I've got a nice 7-8 oz. W&C bridle leather. The grain side is wonderful -- waxy, and soft but still tough. The flesh side, however, is a bit dry and papery in parts. I know that, with time, it should work itself out a bit, but I wonder: would oiling it with neatsfoot or olive oil soften it up, too? johnv474 Report post Posted January 20, 2017 (edited) Yes it will. It takes a while for the oil to fully disperse, though (I have had it take a few days to even out). Apply the oil lightly because of this. You can always add more later. Edited January 20, 2017 by johnv474 phrasing

MADMAX22 Report post Posted February 8, 2017 Careful applying to the flesh side as it soaks in very fast and you can easily over oil it. As mentioned give it time to even out inbetween coats. I dont think it will really help with getting a better finish however. One note on WC bridle, the finish they apply to the flesh side will have that wrinkly appearance over the very loose grain leather like parts of the belly. I have found when your getting into that part of it its best to split it down some to hopefully get that part off or not use it for important projects. The hides I have used usually dont have much of that portion on them and its always below the back portion of the leather.
