Hello,

First time poster here. I've gotten a lot of great info on sewing machines here and am hoping to find some help with figuring out what is wrong with my stitch. I'm sewing with a Consew 1206 and am a newbie. Bob at Toledo sewing kindly set me up with my machine to sew some handbags. I'm attaching a pic of the top and bottom stitches that will hopefully give someone more experienced a clear idea of what is going on.

I'm wondering if the needle is too big??

Thanks!

It looks to me that the needle is a bit big but at any rate loosen your top tension 1/2 turn at a time and check should help.

Just to add I have found that sometimes the bobbin needs tightening a tad then the top a tad but that depends on how compressed the spring in the top tension is.

Another thing is check the spool of thread to make sure it is coming off the spool smoothly.

What size thread and how thick of leather are you sewing? Sometimes thinner leather and thicker thread is hard to get it balanced.

From the photos it looks like the leather is fairly thin,so I would say that both needle is too big, and thread is too thick, and the stitches are too long.

Thanks for the tips. Leather in pic is 3 to 4 oz. Needle is DPX17 160 and thread is bonded nylon 69 1/2 pound.
