New (to me) machine for skate tongues

Recommended Posts

Just got this set up finished. This machine will allow me to sew tongues into hockey skates (and that's harder than it might seem). Just wanted to show off my new toy!

Nice machine. Comes originally from the former DDR, so East Germany in the cold war.

The more I look at it - the more I like it.

Machine just has 2 issues:

1.) its not made by Singer  :blahblahblah:

2.) too bad they did not make it with a short arm version of it

Both are my personal issues

That's a more capable machine than the Adler 30-7 you wanted from me.

I will make a point of shooting a vid of it sewing in a skate tongue. Very excited to be able to offer this service.

Claes are great patcher machines and that is their largest one.  Howeever, they all sew about 12 mm which is significantly more than the Singers..  I would say that it is an earlier build, because as we get further in to the DDR the build quality goes down.

I have a black one like this...to replace my Singer that got stolen... I am glad it got stolen in the end, as this is much better.

Cheers

Alex

CLAES are indeed the best patchers you can get. Singers and Adlers are "a joke" compared with them. I really mean that - though I´m a bit Singer crazy! Singers and Adlers for sure do their job - no doubt but the CLAES are just a few levels up! CLAES is still making patchers (Co. now called alled CL Maschinenbau). I once was in their area (Mühlhausem, Thuringia) and I took the chance to visit them. I stumbled in to their officer and just asked if I could buy some spare parts. Sure - the office lady said with a friendly smile on her face. Men - unbelievable nice service there. They took me down to their production site - showed me around a bit and even demonstrated me a Zig Zag patcher machine - an unbelievable thing it is!
