@Game Moved to Sewing Machines.  You'll get more response here.  Search for the member @gottaknow.  He has posted some training material for sewing machine mechanics.  Also has posted a huge number of helps.

Never suggested that there were any on my website.  I pointed you to look/search for posts/threads done by Gottaknow.  Here is the particular post I was referring to that you could have searched for.

Also suggested that you look for comments he has posted to help various people.  Here is a link for all content he has posted.  http://leatherworker.net/forum/profile/33297-gottaknow/?do=content

You should also look at content posted by Wizcrafts.  http://leatherworker.net/forum/profile/11118-wizcrafts/content/

There are other sewing machine experts here besides Gottaknow and Wizcrafts.  But this should be enough to get you started.  You'll find the others as you peruse the site.  Also many manufacturer's manuals and catalogs, some posted here, some links to other sites.

The search function is just below the banner ads at the right.  You can use it to search any topic you wish.

Videos - Uwe has posted some very good videos on here about adjusting machines, youtube is the only other place I've come across where there are videos relating to sewing machines. As for books, I've never seen any and, as Tom mentioned I've used various manufacturer's manuals, coupled with what I've found on this site to repair/maintain my machines. Industrial sewing machines are an extremely specialised subject and because they're usually associated with factory production any maintenance/repair would either be done inhouse or carried out by specialist businesses. I doubt if there's ever been a lot of call for general repair books on the subject, in part because of the wide variation in design between the manufacturers.(I could be wrong, of course, but I've yet to see any).

When I was first getting familiar with restoring some Singer machines , I learned a tremendous amount from this U. S. Naval training manual.  Sewing machines start at Ch. 4, (page 53).

Attached are a couple of photos of one of the best manual I've ever found.  A USN parachute rigger essentially rewrote some of the repairs to basic machines and made his own line drawings that are much simpler than the photos often used.  It covers 31-15, 7-33, 111w151, 111w155, 211w151, consew 199r,107w ans 143w, and some good general information.  I've only ever seen two copies, mine and the one I copied.  I've heard a library on the east side of Michigan has one but haven't confirmed it.  I tried to upload some more photos but site says I've hit the limit even though it doesn't seem I have.  But detailed step by step, nut by nut instruction with line drawings that only show parts in play are priceless.

There are some sort repair books in German language called: "Der Nähmaschinenfachmann" by Wilhelm Renters. You can download them here:

https://www.occaphot-ch.com/bernina-original-service-manuals/

They are not only about repairs but also give a lot of instructions and explain everything that has to do with sewing.

Hi,

Ismacs sewing machine manuals list may be of help.

http://ismacs.net/free-sewing-machine-manuals-list.html

Also, I have lists on the OCLC Worldcat catalog site: it covers all published books catalogued in the world's catalogs.

I have one list on industrial sewing machines, in case there's something there. It does go from basic to examinations on machines. Also lists on bespoke shoemaking/bootmaking. I know I have missed some main books but am still working on them.

Councilman—Could I possibly get a copy of this? I’d pay for the copies/shipping. I start in two weeks as a Mechanic apprentice at a textile factory and would love to put together some materials. I’ll contact Gottaknow too.

You need to quote or tag the person so they get a notification as they may not be following this thread as it is nearly 4 years since the last post.  You tag a member by typing the @ symbol followed by picking the username from the popup box, like this:

Thanks @Northmount for the tip. It’s been a while since I was really active on a forum. I’ll try again.

@councilman24 Could I possibly get a copy of Cal’s Handbook? I’d pay for the copies/shipping. I start in two weeks as a Mechanic apprentice at a textile factory and would love to put together some useful materials.
