Hello all!

My dad asked me to make him a pair of chaps. The deal was that he'd buy the materials and I'd do the work. Sorry, but that was a special deal for dad only. :) This took me about 40 hours to do. All of the pattern/design is my own work.

Let me know what you think!

Thanks for looking!

I did not know that chaps had pockets! Add that to the long list of things that I didn't know about chaps. Beautiful work, as usual. Don't you just LOVE dyeing background?

Hey, Jeff! I was wondering where you were. ;)

Well the modern cowboy has to put his cell phone somewhere ya know. I use chaps almost every day and I have to say that I wish I made mine with pockets. I mean, I still can but I'm too lazy to make nice stuff for myself. Something tells me you've dyed background before... If I shut down my brain, listen to music, and just pretend that I LOVE dyeing the background I can get the job done. Oh, btw, I finished that gun belt for the holster I made a little while ago. Working on the pics now. Soon to be posted. :)

Thanks!

-Ryan

Vintage chaps often had pockets but usually exterior ones... last week I did see pair advertised with "rare inside" pockets like Roland has made.

Roland more flowers, leaves and vines... less back ground!!!

Yes, still working on improving my drawings. I'm working on how to fill up the space a little better and keeping a better circular flow of the carving. Each one gets a little better... :)

Really nice work. Your father must love them.

Thank you! He does love them but he hasn't used them yet because he is afraid he will scratch them up.

I find chap yokes to be one of the most difficult patterns to draw.  Odd shape, small spaces next to large spaces.  It's hard to design a pattern that flows right, but then I have trouble with that even on an easy space to fill.

You did well for having no existing pattern to follow.

Tell your dad to get those suckers dirty. You didn't make them to hang in the house!

Get your dad to wear them in public if you want more chap orders.

I know nothing about chaps but they look great.

I'd say your drawing is excellent. In my opinion the background to floral design ratio is perfect for this application, as well as the flow too. And the actual tooling is super nice. I dream of the day I can draw something out like that and tool it that well too.

You kill it every item @Rolandranch! No exception here. I have the holster and belt opened in another tab about to go check that out too.
