Le Cuir. Compositions Decoratives Pattern book

Recommended Posts

Free vintage pattern book:

Le Cuir. Compositions Decoratives – author Jehan Raymond (published in 1908) pattern book has some wonderful and unique Art Nouveau designs for leather work - pocket cases and wallets, cigarette boxes, bindings, calendars, music portfolios etc. The descriptions are written in French.

This is a PDF (240MB) on Google drive:

https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Lc95mJPz-dwGupVhW2XmYGis4D5fcvpz

A few of us are fortunate enough to own a hard copy of this treasure, I searched for 2 years to find my mine (and paid dearly for it). Now, because of its age; it was added to Public Domain in 2016. *This book is very rare, some copies are preserved and archived in some museums - MET.

I hope you find these awesome patterns and illustrations useful.

Big thanks to Letter T for condensing the PDF, Nuttish, Chirsash, and Buttermutt07 for testing the link on multiple platforms.

P.S. Source files are in the Library of Congress - National Archives site.

Enjoy,

Deb

It is also available here , has been since May 2016
https://archive.org/details/LeCuirCompositionsDecoratives
In various formats..including pdf..
Two versions ..Hi-Res and Low-res are in the same zip file pdf..size of the zip file is 408 MB
the Hi-Res is readable..but a bit blurry on some pages..appears to be the same scan as DebHop's..

ps..If you like that Art Nouveau style..you should look up "Alfons ( Alphonse) Mucha"..major exhibition of his work ATM in Paris..
and also Aubrey Beardsley..( much of Beardsley's work is NSFW )..

That's awesome, thanks! Now I "just" need to find the skills to reproduce some of these on leather! Any of you willing to show your work?

This brings back memories, I have visited the Mucha museum in Prague long time ago... at least it feels a long time ago.

Wonderful place, as the city itself.

The book is scarce as hens teeth.

Like I said, i searched for 2 years and finally found it on Amazon used books.

I do hope you find something to use - and by all means share what you make.

Thanks,

Deb

Depending on the cover, the type of pages and the size of the book the price varies from about $150 to $1100. Repros are about $25 - $50

It would be advisable to get a price from a very reputable antiquarian book dealer or from a specialist fine arts auction house

Thanks for posting this, @DebHop, and to @toxo for bringing it to the top of the stack.  I am now motivated to pick up my carving tools that have been stored in a box since the 1970s.  I so admire Jean Luc Parisot's work in the same fashion https://www.instagram.com/parisot_sellier/.
