Craftool Deluxe leather splitter

Recommended Posts

Hey all. Ive been wanting to get man hands on a leather splitter for a while now. Ideally a landis handcrank would be amazing! Unfortunatley its not in my budget. So here is the dilema, Tandy is having a black friday sale in canada for the Craftool Deluxe Leather Splitter. Its only 270$ CAD instead of around 450$ (Buisness Price). I dont technicaly NEED it but i think it would help me broaden out my projects.

So heres the question. Is it a good idea to jump on this deal?

Thanks for your input.

If I were you, I would wait until you can afford a better model.  There are so many options out there that if you don't need it, why get one form Tandy.  I'd look at an old Osborne or the like thats been refurbished.  You'll be much happier in the long run.  Brucejohnsontools.com usually has a great selection.

Don't seem like much of a "saving" to spend $200 on something you don't need

I bought a Tandy splitter like you are looking at about 3 years ago.  It worked/works great on straps up to 1.5 inches wide.  I finally found a rebuilt Landis 30 last year and now I only use the Tandy splitter for skiving strap ends.  I tried pulling a 4 inch strap through one time and have the hernia to prove it

Yea, your right. I wasnt sure that there were other options but thanks for pointing it out. Im a sucker for deals and needed to run it past some level heads before making a decision. Thanks again!

A properly refurbished one from years past will do those straps with ease.  Deals are great, but only if you get exactly what you want.  Good man!
