Some old leather. What to do?

Recommended Posts

I inherited these old skins and they might be home tanned and probably from the 1940-1950... what would you do with them? How might I start softening, they are as hard as card board! Or should I just chuck them out? :o

Try a small area test with a good coating of pure neatsfoot oil, it may give some life and nothing ventured nothing gained, it will darken the leather somewhat, you could also try  a good make conditioner

Thank you. I’m going to try it right away. Let’s see what happens. I’m pondering, if the leather has lost its durability over time..  but there’s I guess only one way to find out.
