Hi there,  I would love to buy a post bed machine to do sewing on shoe uppers (5-7oz moccasin leather) but am not able to swing that right now. I have seen some flat bed machines with the roller wheels that enable you to get nice and close to the edges, i have a NS797 which in my understanding is a considered class 15. I'm finding conflicting info online whether I a roller wheel foot will work on this machine, i was hoping someone here can help me. If this machine is not capable of using a roller wheel can someone recommend a high shank flatbed machine that I might be able to look for locally.

Thanks Ginny

Hi, I think probably the most common industrial ones would be the Singer class 31-17 or 18, Singer 112W140 which has 2 needles and a roller foot or the small cylinder arm class 17 and 18 which were for sewing vamps also. I am sure Consew,Juki etc made copy's but you would have to compare pictures from the net.

I have no idea what a NS797 sewing machine is - please post some pictures.

This is what comes to my mind in therms of vintage Singer machines  for the shoe trade (just to give you options).

Singer 236G has a top and bottom driven feed (has a 2nd built in motor that drives the top roller foot by a small V-belt)

Singer 52w is a 2 needle post bed machine so it produces 2 parallel seams with approx 2 distance.

Singer 110w / 110K is a very nice gear driven flat bed machine will roller feed dog.  It has 3 pre set stich length (all rather short) - maybe you like this video

Most straight stitch machines, like the common Singer 31-15 and its offspring, can be converted into roller foot machines. The conversion kit includes a roller foot attachment, a special inline feed dog and a matching throat plate. The presser foot bar will probably need to be moved up to allow the roller to fully engage. There are small and large roller feet available.

If it is a domestic sewing machine (low shank), then I recently discovered this big roller feet on the market:
