Second saddle, second place!

Recommended Posts

Hello all!

Here is my second saddle I finished just in time for the leather trade show in Prescott. I was beyond thankful to get 2nd place! I learned so much from judges Gordon Andrus, Bob Klenda, and Al Gould. What a great experience! Can't wait to start on number 3 and make it even better!

Saddle details:

15-1/2" Hogg roper tree with leg-cuts.

Thoroughbred leather

All hardware was from my good friend Gordy Alderson.

That's a nice piece of work. The lines are real good and the decorative elements are excellent. I like the way you kept it tied together with that rope border motiff.

Regards,

Arturo

Very many congratulations from me as well.

If yours is 2nd place then the winner must be a real stunner and the competition must have been fierce

To everyone on here you'll always be the winner, Ryan

Well Ryan, if your saddle is No. 2, I would hate to compete against No. 1.  For only your second saddle, it looks amazing.  Your tooling looks well planned, and your swivel knife work is great.  Tooling the back of the cantle is difficult at best, but you nailed it.  I like how you stitched the flank cinch billet buckle holes; makes it look professional.  The  three judges are talented saddle makers, and you can trust what they said to be really good advice.  Keep up the good work.

Ron

Very impressive Ryan!  Really like your tooling and the clean lines!

Quality of this saddle definitely shows that we are in the 'Golden Age' of craftsmanship!

Congratulations, Ryan!

Beautiful work. It looks great. Unfortunately, I am not a specialist in horses and saddles, but I am sure that your saddle will last a long time and will please its owner!

Fantastic job. I can't imagine how long that took to make. Truly a labour of love. And second place for your second attempt must've given you a tremendous sense of pride.  (Provided of course there were more than two of you in the race and the regular judge wasn't tied up in the back of the van and your dad had to take over the judging. ;) )
