Binocular case

Recommended Posts

So, inspired by the Repair Shop ( my favourite show on television,  I remembered there was an old binoculars case lying in pieces at my parents’ house. I removed the remains of the old thread (not easy), re-stitched it and cleaned it it up. There is a real sense of satisfaction about giving something a new lease of life.

Spectacular!  I've recently decided that the old case makers were probably under appreciated.  Folks just always expected things like binoculars and lenses to have a leather case, and a lot of them were pretty nice!

Very nice work.  Stitching looks great.

Nice work! It's always nice to see something come back to life again.
I did something similar to a family artifact: a leather Masonic sword case, about 100 years old or so.
The leather is in great condition...but the original stitching had pretty much all rotted out.
That took a LOT of stitching-- about 4 hours worth! But the new stitching will very likely last another century (or more, since it's Ritza synthetic thread).

I am curious about the origin of the Carl Zeiss stamp!

That was already on the case. The binoculars inside have Carl Zeus’s on them as well.
