Hey Guys!! New here from Illinois!

Recommended Posts

So, as the title says, I'm new to the art of leatherwork, and I'm from the state of Illinois. A little about me, since that's what this section is about, right?

I have been interested in working with leather for a little while, but became super interested when I purchased a leather and spiked collar for my pup at the "bargain" price of $200. Needless to say, I received an Amazon starter kit for Christmas.

Fast forward 6 months, and I now make custom leather collars for people and their pets at a fraction of the price. Basic tooling, strap making, sewing, padding and backing by hand. I want to get better at this, and each collar I make his better than the last.

I'm still really new, and honestly all my stuff comes from either Weaver, or Tandy. Reading through some of the forums I see there are other, better places to purchase leather, hardware and machinery.  I recently purchased from Springfield, and was wondering if there are any more places like this, and if there were ant other places I would be able to purchase machinery from? Id love a sewing machine, and a press!!

Already too long, I apologize. A million questions, and down time at work don't make for the best intros.

Thanks everyone!

Mike

Mike, Welcome here from over there,  I buy 99% of my leather from Springfield. Their might be other places but the people there treat me right.  and i can pick up the phone and get answer's to my questions. Or  They actually let me talk to the person who is cutting the leather for my order.

Plus the girl who answers the phone has a sesse voice LOL
