So I decided to make a holster for an N frame S&W revolver.  Made a pattern and traced it onto my leather, cut it out, and finally noticed my RH holster was now a LH holster!  I put the pattern on the flesh side of the leather so it came out backwards.  Decided to finish it just to keep it as a reminder to double check pattern before laying knife to leather!

Thanks . . . I'm sorry it happened to you . . . too . . .

I think we've all done something similar if we've been whacking leather for any amount of time.

May God bless,

Dwight

:yeah:I like how you think!  I already have several N frames in my safe to choose from but I'm afraid the weight would pull my trousers down!

Ive got a real nice 1911 WWII style tanker holster that's left handed for this very reason.  I now mark my patterns Hide side and flesh side.

When using paper patterns, I only mark ONE side.  If I'm making a rightey holster, I need to see the WRITING (RIGHTing).  If I don't see the WRITING, then either the leather or the paper is back-ards.

Course, on our patterns it actually says "left" n "right" hand, cuz not everybody does things same way.  If it's LEFT, then the pattern SAYS left. Then, that don't prevent a fella having the leather backards.

On some patterns I write a bit more; like, 'this side up, other side to flesh'

If the item is 'handed' then I add '. . . for Right Hand, turn over for Left Hand'

Good points made and I have since started writing clearly on my patterns what they are and which side of the leather they need to be transferred to!
