Double shoulder or full side

Recommended Posts

Generally speaking which is better grade of leather a double shoulder or a full side? I want to make a duffle bag and I’d like to use better leather. I know leather from one company is better than from another etc.

Is it big enough?
The belly is generally the weakest/stretchiest part. The spine the  best part - when it comes to harness leather.
If you need length, a double-shoulder might not have it.
Figure out the total area you need, and then get the piece that will fulfil your requirements.

As a rule, the butt is the firmest part of the hide (all else equal).  But if it's large enough, the double shoulder would make a perfectly good duffel.  Unless the duffel bag is quite large, i would think the main consideration would be the look desired.

A double shoulder is going to have natural fat wrinkles running in line with the longer measurement, if that matters.  With a bit of planning, this can be an advantage ...

The duffle bag is 20x10x10 for my wife to carry all her products and electrical devices when we travel. So it sounds like a double shoulder is the way to go.
