What are you planning on sewing? The 8700 series are drop feed machines not a walking foot machine and made more for fabric sewing.

The Juki Juki DU-1181N is really the start leather machine but only light to medium leather

I only machine sew bags and pouches that are sewn inside out and then turned. I hand sew everything else because I prefer the way it looks. I am using a Sears 31-15 that works fine, just wanted to up grade to machine with reverse. Thanks for the responses

The DDL 8700H is a great fabric sewing machine that also sews vinyl. Here is a YouTube video showing one being demo'd.

The machine may or may not move leather depending on its top and bottom surface details. The feed dogs do all of the work. The denser the leather/material, the stronger the foot pressure and thread tensions need to be. Also, the stitch length shortens with added height. It starts at no more than about 5 to the inch into about 1/8 inch of soft material.
