I tried my hand at tooling.

Recommended Posts

It turned out much better than I was expecting it to, as I was working on it.  I almost gave up.
Lots of room for improvement though, so I’m diving right back in for round two!

Wow nice detail in the carving as well as the painting!  Looks tedious, but great job!!!

Looks great!  Is it just a sample panel or is it part of a project?

You nailed one of the most difficult, imo, parts and that is the eyes. Really a very nice project!

Thank you!  This was a practice piece that I added two eyelets on the top right and left corners so it can be hung like a picture. I am working on a second, similar piece that I added some text to.  If it turns out decent I would like to hang it just outside my craft room.

TEDIOUS?? You call THAT tedious? Um, have you ever done basketweave? Now, THAT'S tedious!  (Which is why i refuse to do it.)

For a first attempt, I'd call that awesome! Great work!

As my wife would say, "only you can see them!". But, that's what makes us improve. I think you did a great job!

Thats awesome!  I tooled a boxer, but I failed at coloring, so the second version just got antique.  Great job on everything!

What a laborious looking piece, but so well done  :specool:. I still have trouble doing eyes on horses, but you've got it just perfect  :)

Thank you.  I appreciate you saying that.  It was a bit daunting for me but as I was working it, I also found it building my confidence.  It was a good practice piece for sure.

erhm... where's moonbug bay?

We are in the Piney Woods of East Texas.  It’s not on any maps.  My brother used to call me a Moon Bug because he said I was a Lunar Tick.

That looks really nice, I like the way you drew and tooled the lines in the tan fur, it reminds me of those carved wood pieces that have segments all fitting together to make up an animal face.
