Rigging plate rivet

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I need to repair an old saddle and i have to rivet a flat rigging plate but i don’t know the name to find the rivet.

The rigging plate look like this Image but the rivet is nickel of something like that and it is seam bigfee than a copper rivet with blurr. Also the back of the rivet is not cap (it is an hole).

thanks for your help :)

Replace with No. 9, solid copper rivets.  Probably 5/8 to 3/4 inches long.

:17: A lot of OLD hardware like that is simply not available anymore.  Companies close, get bought out, change with the times, etc. Unless you can find some really old stock, substitution is your best bet.

Many rigging plates are drilled for a #8 copper rivets.  #8 rivets are a bit larger post diameter than #9 which won't be ideal but will also work if its all you can find (they are more commonly available).  Copper rivets and burrs can be sourced at a good hardware store, leather supply retailers, farrier supply houses, etc.  For riggings, it's important to only use solid copper rivets and burs with a post diameter appropriate for the hardware.  For safety and durability, don't use "pop rivets," "tubular rivets," or any other type of fasteners.
