cafbush Report post Posted November 5, 2015 I am looking for the best way to oil or wax or something a piece of cowhide so that I can make a bag for my bagpipes. I have looked at other hide bags and found that they are relatively easy to make but all of the makers keep their "processes" a secret. Any help on figuring out how to "finish" "a cowhide to help with moisture control is greatly appreciated. Once a bag is set up about once a year (or more) the other makers recommend "seasoning" the hide bag. The seasoning is a glycerin based liquid that is rubbed into the walls and seams on the inside of the bag. Thus allowing the moisture to escape but the air to stay in. Here is a link that explains it a little bit more http://www.gannawaynz.co.nz/pipe-bags-faq
