How To Inlay Exotic Leathers/skins?

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone, I have been searching and searching. Does anyone know of a good video or tutorial on inlaying? I bought a bag of exotics from SLC to try my hand, but just can't seem to find any good instructions.

Any help will be greatly appreciated...

You can also check out my Blogspot. I did a multiple post on basic inlay work. Let me know if you have any comments, questions or concerns. Happy New Years greetings from Central Texas, USA!

I did this holster pretty much the same way. I actually backed my exotic with 2-3oz veg tan.

Black with Aligator

This was my first one...the main thing for me was remembering to finish the "cut-out" area before putting it all together. Both front pieces are 2-3oz pieces. I have one piece with the cut-out, the other, is the size of the full holster. Glue and sew the exotic to the cut-out, then the cut out to the other piece around the edges.

I have another one I have done that I will have to find the pic on.

Good Luck!

I do mine similar to this except the piece that I cut out I then cut it slightly smaller, bevel the edge and put that under the exotic so that it pushes the exotic out flush with the front piece. It takes more time but looks better in the end.
