  1. Thank you for your response. I agree that a cheap look is a Horrible thing. I was just asking because I have a beautiful handcuff strap I made, and I don't want to booger it up by trying to remove the old snap. The regular snap won't hold under the weight of a pair of cuffs mixed with Being knocked about on your waist. Thanks again.
  2. I have a flashlight holder that has a regular line 24 snap. The snap takes the weight of the heavy flashlight. The snap is peened on the dome towards the edge. It will only open If pulled from the edge that is peened. Could this be a homemade pull at the dot snap? Have any of yall done this before? Thanks-Charles
  3. I have an authorized seller of Tandy products in my area. They carry an extensive assortment of everything you could want. They started offering Fiebings dye at around two dollars less per bottle than the Tandy Outlet. I bought the colors, light brown, chocolate, mohogany, tan, dark brown and USMC Black. The black dye is the only one I do not have a problem with. The others with the exception of the tan are pretty much the same shade of dark brown. The tan is a beautiful brown maroon color. What I am trying to say is that the shades do not look anything like the swatches at the store or on the internet. I have tried all of the dyes on the sample pieces from the same veg hide. All of the bottles were foil sealed. They are packaged just like the stuff from the Tandy Outlet. What do you think the malfunction is? Could ot be knock off dye? Spoiled? Old? Your thoughts?
  4. thank you for the quick reply. Rubbing alcohol should remove the tan kote right? I figured it must since it will take dye off your hands. For the true new leather guy, what is "Aussie?"
  5. Hello all. I just made my first holster for a small automatic. It turned out real well and I'm happy with my stitching and edge finishing. I was impatient with my dye job. I put two coats on (Feibing's USMC blk), dried it with a hair dryer, then finished it with Tan Kote. Like I said, I was impatient. I have since learned to wait. I am now faced with a nice holster that needs to be refinished. I was going to deglaze the Tan Kote with rubbing alcohol, let it dry, then dye the piece with another 3-4 coats of USMC blk. My question is, is my refinishing technique sound or does anyone have a better way? Thanks for any help.
