Sliding "frozen" Stirrup Leathers

Recommended Posts

OK, now for the reverse. How do some of you folks free up stirrup leathers that have been bent around the tree for 10 years and will not budge?

Drop the skirts and push them up. Sometimes you can push them up one at a time into the channel without dropping the skirts and spray/soak them with warm water to break down that kink and then pull them over.

I use liquid saddle soap when their stuck like that. Spray it under the seat both sides of the leathers and pull the skirt down as much as you can spray both sides of the leathers. Let it set for a minute and pull. Sometimes you need another person to hold the saddle while you pull. That has worked me just about evertime.

Got the leathers dampened, still didn't want to come free. I was wishing I had a come-along. By flipping the saddle upside down it was easier to redampen the leathers and dribble a little neetsfoot oil. I let it set for about 15 min, and finally they came free. Thanks And just think, some people have a romantic notion about saddle work
