kbigger Report post Posted November 9, 2012 Hello all, newb here so apologies in advance... I've been lurking a while and have to say that the info on this forum is great - the best I've found so far. I just got a lightly used Tacsew T111-155 for DIY marine canvas and upholstery. It "makes a noise" (highly technical term) and since I'm too new to know what's normal I thought I'd post here. I removed the needle thinking it was bent but that didn't change the noise. I left the needle out for now. When I rotate the balance wheel (in forward gear), the machine consistently makes a muffled metalic clunk when the needle bar is about 1/4" from the bottom of it's motion. It sometimes makes a quieter version of "the clunk" when the needle bar is about 3/8" from the bottom of it's motion. When I rotate the balance wheel (in reverse gear) no such clunk. It's smooth all the way around. The noise seems to be loudest under the machine near the hook but I haven't been able to pinpoint the source. I tested the machine a bit before taking it and it seemed to sew OK though I certainly didn't sew a lot. It makes a good bit of noise when sewing. Suggestions on where to start? I have the sailrite 111 manual and have been referring to it to familiarize with the machine internals. Thanks.
kbigger Report post Posted November 10, 2012 Upon further testing I find that changing the stitchlength wheel setting affects problem. Turn the length all the way down, the noise stops. Turn the length up and the clunk gradually return, turn the length up enough and it blocks rotation of the balance wheel's rotation near the bottom of the needle bar rotation. So I believe the clunk is interference noise and it just so happened that the stitch length it was on when I ran it had the machhine on the edge of the interference problem. I don't think altering the stitch length wheel position is actually changing the stitch length though, just from watching the needle bar forward/backward motion. Seems this thing needs help. Any body know a repairman in the Baltimore area?
kbigger Report post Posted November 11, 2012 [sOLVED] I hope. Seems the thread length knob got turned past the max length, 8 mm. Which explains a stitch length or about 9 when the knob read 1 mm. I was able to slip the knob stop past the detent pin using a small screw driver to get it back in the right range. Interesting.
