Identification Of My Saddle, Please Help!

Hello,

I just bought this lovely old saddle, and it is soooo comfortable that I would like to find another! However I have looked over it and cannot find any makers mark. There is some print on the front girth rings, but it is hard to make out, last part seems to say May 1815, maybe an old patent and off of something not a saddle? The saddle is pretty heavy and the tooling is excessive and deeply cut, with what, perhaps are Sunflowers?? Please, if anyone has any clues please let me know what you think, I am a total tack novice, sorry for the bad description! Thanks all!!

Without a stamp or number it will be hard to tell who made your saddle. It appears to be a style of saddle that was common in the 1940's but yours looks to be in pretty good shape. During this period many people bought their new saddles from catalogs like Sears, and Wards with many of these saddles being produced by a lot of different companys. Your saddle looks to be from that period but without a makers mark we just can't tell its origin. The number on the rigging ring relates to the ring itself and not the saddle. I 'm sorry I could not be of more help. It is a great old saddle, take good care of it...... Jeff

Well made saddle, not typical of catalog sales. Good stout roper. Slick seats almost disappeared in the 60's so I'm thinking your saddle predates 1960. It was in the early 50's the cantles were lowered as there was a misconception that a cowboy could dismount faster to tie a calf.
