Leather And Tool Choices, And Everything Else

hey everyone, new to the forum, im a relatively newish knife maker and wanting to expand my horizons and add some beautiful sheaths with my knives along with interest in making some belts for myself (i love hand crafted belts) and rifle slings. So i guess from what ive read its best to outline the sort of things i would like to achieve, pattern wise i would like to eventually do some basic tooling on my sheaths giving the woven look and alike, and also add some pictures of game animals and alike. Would also like to learn how to add think lace stitching, how to colour the leather to show both light and dark colours and with the belts, learn how to do the intricate crafting of adding leafs, flowers, and even wording.

My two questions i have is firstly

what leather i should be looking at using for shealths and belts

and secondly

a general tool guide to get me started, ie some sort of idea where i wont need to add to or upgrade for quiet a while

Im from australia, seems this is a dieing art around here other then a few knife makers turning out some basic sheaths theres not much going on, i got to love leather through my knife making.

well looks like i should of one some more reading because everything i wanted to know is already on here haha..... great site
