Breaking Thread

I have a Tacsew T111-155 machine i am trying to sew about 8oz leather i am useing a # 23 needle it gos through the leather with no problem but i keep breaking thread # 92 seems to break less then # 138 MY thread is marked T90 and T135 high speed bonded nylon.the slower i go the less it breaks may be some one can tell me what to do thanks Charlie K

Hi Charlie, i'm a novice when it comes to leather, but being a seamstress i have beem using sewing machines for years and it sounds like you may have a very slightly damaged needle, even a tiny nick or miniscule bend in the point can cause threads to snap

Evening Charlie, I have a Ferdco baby bull and had this problem about 10 years ago. It ended up being a timing problem. What was cutting the thread in my case was the shuttle spring being in slightly the wrong postition during the sewing process. I called Ferdco and they walked me through the fix over the telephone.
