I purchased an inexpensive hard cover journal and created a cover as a gift to a friend.  Inside lined with cloth and added a 2 inch strip of pigskin liner to hold the notebook.  I also added a ribbon down the spine to add a bookmark.  

My calendar covers used the same.  I purchase blank calendars online
