Members john sliss Posted August 4, 2012 Report Being realtively new to leather work I probably should not comment----however: I too had trouble with the casing of leather before carving and stamping.(still do at times). I found a formula on this site for preparing the leather, 1cup lexol, 1cup bottled water, 1tsp no more tears, 1tsp listerine. It works really well for me, immerse the leather, and heres the trick place on a wool blanket and fold the blanket over the top. With the heat it takes much less time than you would think. You can leave it overnight. By casing the leather this way you are able to carve and stamp over a period of days without rewetting. This seems to work rather well for me on both large and small projects, currently [off and on] trying to build a saddle. I had to drive 2 and 1/2hrs one way to get the wool blanket, Military Surplus Store, it was well worth it. keep carving and stamping jsliss Quote
