needle system question for 111W156 Singer
bnsmith replied to bnsmith's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
@Constabulary Thanks for the pics! I have not seen those particular ones before. Could you give the link? Is there one for 135X16? What does the pale blue diagram indicate? I get R and L as Right and Left but what does C and P mean? All Very hard to tell these needles apart, would the R and LR be easier to spot the difference? Any ideas on the tolerances + - on setting the needle bar height? .8 mm is not a lot. Does the bobbin hook pass the centre off the needle cutout? Finally what size thread is used with these needles, and would there be a source of samples of thread sizes? I don't have a good mental picture of what the sizes look like in leather yet (my ultimate goal) Thanks Brian -
I recently acquired a walking step 111W156, so newbie here. With the machine I received two sets off needles (pictured). Can the 111W156 accept both systems (135 X 17 or 134 - 35) with no adjustment ( as from what I can tell there is a ~.9mm difference in length according to spec). Is there a reason to want to use the 134 system, or would another 135 type work just as well? Thanks Brian

Ok. So it cannot go all the way around when adjusting the stitch length (plunger pushed). Thanks that is what I see -

Sadly no, my issue is the wheel that one spins to adjust the stitch length does not go all the way around. It may actually not be a problem as the stitch length does adjust. -

Sorry I just noticed the reply to this post Here are some pictures. Note I discovered in the oiling question I posted that there is a modification and this machine has a different hook saddle than usual. I suspect that would change the step mechanism adjustment. see other thread Here are some pics of the underside. -

Oiling Singer 111G156, mystery part/object
bnsmith replied to bnsmith's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Thanks so much! So one fills to see the line at the top of the dip stick? Odd system as the dip stick pushes oil out of way I suspect. I did see a thread on changing the hook saddle to a larger one, is that what I have? Not the G size (I think?) that is standard for 111g156? -

Ah, that would explain not finding the felt. Does one fill to the end of the flat hashed section? Very hard to see this light oil ... is there a trick? -
New to the Singer 111G156 machine. I have been reading a lot posts. I can engage the pinion to move the eccentric adjusting the step length. Question is should the hand wheel be able to turn all the way around while engaging pinion, adjusting between largest step and zero... mine does not, the eccentric hits the side of the housing it is in , one has to turn the hand wheel in the opposite direction to get to center. Does this matter? Numbers indicating SPI are not matching as well but I think that is a fall out of this problem.

Thread question Singer 111G156 older recomendation
bnsmith posted a topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Just getting into this hobby I see from an older manual the recommended thread to use How does this match to from the Toledo site Is the "Cotton Thread" measurement not used any more? Do we worry about twist as well? Thanks Brian -
I just acquired a Singer 111G156 and was in the process of oiling the machine. Looking in the Bobbin well on the RHS I noticed a post that was not in the picture, nor in anything I have read so far. Poking and finally pulling revealed this Any ideas what it is? I still don't see the two oil points I need, felt below bobbin or on edge of bobbin regards Brian
