  1. Thanks for your replies. To my inexperienced eyes the oval looks ok. My thought is the screw that holds the piece in place and the area of the piece that the screw comes in contact with are both worn down. There’s now way to tighten it enough currently that will have the feed dog move correctly. I can’t see any loose movement in the shaft the dog attaches to though that doesn’t mean there isn’t. It’s pretty dirty in that area. Im planning to go by the shop this week and talk with him some more and maybe mess with it some more. Is there anything else you would recommend I should look at on this machine? Do you have a recommendation for a source for parts for the machine, specifically the screw and feed dog? Thanks again, Jonathan
  2. Hello, I used incorrect terminology when I said walking foot, I think the correct term is the feed dog, I believe that is worn out. I had a chance to mess with it some today. I’m not an expert with this but from what I can tell the screw hole on the dog is enlarged due to useage and I think the screw not being tightened. If I had a new one to compare it to I might know for sure. I was able to get it snugged up by using a cardboard shim and it appears to work. The screw is messed up from being torqued on repeatedly. I was just wanting to see if I could get it to work. I’m think it’s got promise, needs a good cleaning and the new parts. Thanks jonathan
  3. Hello to whoever reads this. I’m considering buying a 205-64. It needs the walking foot worked on. I’ve been told there are shims that are needed to keep it working in line. Its sews fine and could be used as is. I know it’s an old machine with its limitations and I certainly don’t need it. That being said the asking price is $500 and I do wonder if it might be worth it to have I’m my shop or possibly repair and resell. Though I never seem to sell anything. I’d like to hear opinions from those who know more about this machine than I. Thanks Jonathan
  4. Hello I am thinking about going to the Pendleton Leather Show at the end of the month. I was wondering if anyone one this site is going to be there as a vendor or if anyone has recommendations on things to check out. Thanks Jonathan
  5. Hello, I’m looking for sources for good quality leather and wondering where people are getting their leather from. I’ve bought from Tandy and Oregon leather. Neither seem to be able to get harness leather and I’d like to find some other sources. Thanks jonathan
  6. Hello, Im interested to learn if anyone has a source for saddle trees they are happy with? thanks, Jonathan
  7. Thank you for the replies. I appreciate the feedback and will look into the different brands and companies. It’s helpful to have some personal recommendations. I’m in Oregon near Eugene. Pendleton is a drive but definitely worth thinking about. Thanks Jonathan
  8. I’m very new to leatherwork and After tinkering around with an old singer 7-34 and learning its limitations while having had the opportunity to use a cobra class 4 I’m at the point of looking to buy a modern machine. I’m looking at the cobra class 4 since I’ve had the opportunity to use one and am familiar with it. I’m open to other machines but am hesitant to order one I haven’t use. No matter which machine I choose I need to order a machine since I’m not close to any dealers. Does anyone have recommendations on who to order a cobra from or any other helpful suggestions. I could order one thru my local Tandy and may do so l. Thanks Jonathan
  9. Hello I recently got a Campbell Randall lock stitch machine with no cabinet or motor. I’m trying to decide the best way to get it set up and usable. I’ve talked with the folks at Campbell and they sell a complete package of cabinet and motor. I don’t know for sure if the machine I have is in working condition, from what I can tell being as inexperienced as I am it looks to be in serviceable condition. I’m hesitant to invest the money in purchasing the cabinet as its more than I paid for the machine not knowing if it’s a working machine. I’m thinking about buying a motor and building a table for it but I’ve so far been unable to find information about what motor would work for this machine or how to best go about building the gear reducing drive if that’s necessary. I’d appreciate hearing anyone’s opinion regarding this. Thanks
