Hey folks I'm looking for a machine recommendation from the community. I am new to machine sewing, I am very mechanical and I'm technical. My sole purpose is to sew automotive interiors (because my primary hobby is auto restoration). So I have no interest in garments, leather goods, harness type stuff etc... I only want to sew fabric/leather/vinyl/foam that would be appropriate for car seats, door panels, headliners and so on. I prefer leather interiors but I want to be able to mix in vinyl or fabric in the right situation. I don't see myself ever doing this professionally but my auto work has taught me to get the right tools for the job to avoid pain and frustration.
In my recent sewing machine studies, I've learned I probably need a compound feed walking foot machine that is powered by a servo motor. I think I need the ability to go up to V-138 thread and the ability to easily handle up to 3/8" material (roughly, hopefully that is max). I have the know-how and tech skills to get something used and fix it up, but I have very little desire to do that... I already have the cars calling me to tinker and repair, the last thing I need is a tool that I have to tinker with so it needs to be ready to sew.
What is a good option for a quality tool that can do a great job, that is as economical as possible while still being reasonable for my skill level?
